I am not a musician, but a real music lover. An opportunity came up when I was a student, and working for a festival in Salzburg. It was the start of my career in music.
I moved to Luxembourg in 2013, the year when I took up my duties as Director of the Philharmonie. I was immediately won over by the country’s multi-culturalism and open-mindedness. Its weather too! (laughing)
It proposes a rich, varied programme, designed for all audiences. It also devotes numerous events to children, including a festival whose theme this year was the circus. Though one should also come for its congenial atmosphere, more accessible than one might imagine. Fans of architecture will then appreciate this building designed by Christian de Portzamparc, which deserves attention in itself alone.
To bring the season to a close, we are holding our traditional End of Season Party, a big event with DJs of international renown, and our absolute-must “Summerconcert op der Kinnekswiss”, a large outdoor concert staged in Luxembourg’s municipal park. The next season will notably begin with Nick Cave and the Berlin Philharmonic. Then, many events will take place throughout the year with, in particular, cine-concerts with Hitchcock and atlântico films, a festival focusing on Portuguese culture. Not forgetting our lunch concerts, free of charge, each month.
To continue to evolve and adapt to trends, despite our layout dedicated to seated audiences. An extension is also underway, with the bonus of an additional room and a restaurant to welcome the public even more warmly.
