Beyond its towns, the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg reveals amazing diversity in its natural scenery. It is a living landscape in which deep forests rub shoulders with sinuous valleys and extensive plateaux, all scattered with lakes and rivers with crystal-clear waters. This harmonious whole contains a singular green backcloth which evolves with the seasons, offering a corner of paradise to nature-lovers in search of wide open spaces and pure air.
To safeguard these natural gems, Luxembourg has introduced an ambitious conservation policy. A significant portion is protected and proudly presented in three parks which encourage sustainable tourism. To the north of the country, the Nature Parks of Haute-Sûre and L’Our are real lungs with flourishing fauna and flora, and stunning panoramic views. To the east, the Mëllerdall Natur- & Geopark is astonishing for its spectacular rock formations, but also for impressive gorges such as the famous Wollefsschlucht (Wolf’s Throat) and the Kuelscheier (Coal Shed). In addition to these nature parks, Luxembourg offers lots of outstanding sites ideal for outdoor activities. The Valley of the Seven Castles, for example, unfurls hundreds of kilometres of sign-posted hiking trails and many cycling paths winding their way through grandiose scenery. As its name suggests, this valley will also bring you close to awesome castles such as those of Koerich, Septfontaines and Mersch, offering rare opportunities to add a cultural dimension to your sporting adventure.
Nicknamed “Luxembourg’s little Switzerland”, the Mullerthal Trail is the country’s most popular hiking route. With its 112 kilometres split into three main loops, it offers options for all levels, attracting many hikers each year. With the arrival of fine weather, the Grand-Duchy also proves to be a wonderful playground in which to enjoy a multitude of water activities. The lake of La Haute-Sûre, Luxembourg’s largest stretch of water, and the lakes of Weiswampach, are privileged sites in which to benefit from this. You can bathe in designated areas or try your hand at kayaking, paddle boarding or even windsurfing. Whether you are an experienced hiker, a fan of water sports, or simply looking for an adventure, Luxembourg will meet all your desires. A destination where each path, each water course, and each ancient rock invites you to reconnect with nature.
