A founding pillar of the EU, Luxembourg has a sound reputation as host to EU member states, due especially to its strategic position at the crossroads of western Europe and its linguistic diversity. Its capital hosts many European bodies, institutions, agencies and key organizations contributing to decision-making, the uniform application of laws, and distribution of information within the EU. They include the EU’s Court of Justice, the Council’s General Secretariat, and some of the European Commission’s administrative services.
The Grand Duchy’s capital is also linked to finance. Since 1958, it has hosted the European Investment Bank, European Investment Fund, and European Court of Auditors. On the Kirchberg Plateau in the north-east of the capital, this financial and judicial hub hosts intercultural exchanges and collaborations between diverse European entities. Along with the Publications Office, handling official publication of EU legislation, information and communications, the Translation Centre for EU Bodies and the EU Intellectual Property Office.
