Sofitel Luxembourg Europe had a recent facelift: a great surprise for regular guests rediscovering their favourite hotel, but also for newcomers to Luxembourg-Ville. ‘‘This is the only 5-star on the Plateau de Kirchberg, the business district, close to the Philharmonie, Luxembourg’s large concert hall designed by French architect Christian de Porzamparc, ’’explains Fernando López Lens. ‘‘The DNA shared by all Sofitel hotels is always enhanced by a local feature, so we chose music to inspire our new rooms and suites.’’ Architect Philippe Capron was entrusted with embellishing the 100 rooms and 9 suites: ‘‘I wanted to give them a soul by using music to avoid the coldness often felt in standardized hotels.’’ True to the Sofitel spirit, the rooms offer a contemporary style with warm colours and fabrics. ‘‘For natural light even in the bathrooms, I came up with a transparent window whose graphics are a sensual interpretation of musical instruments and architectural features of the Philharmonie. The wood for furniture is tinted sycamore, recalling violins. The walls with coppery reflections echo the tones of the ‘‘brass section’’. The bed-head’s design recalls a treble clef, switches evoke piano keys, and artworks with musical references adorn certain areas.’’ Spacious, symphonic rooms, conducive to rest and enjoyment, with MyBedTM bed concept, cocooning exclusive to Sofitel hotels, all the essential Sofitel products (bathrobe, slippers, BoseSoundSystemTM), even an expresso machine. Sheer refinement, each bathroom has a tub and a rain shower, depending on the time you have available. Among these innovations, each room is now ‘‘connected’’ with new equipment, such as HDMI socket included in TV screens, bed-head USB connections to charge cell phones and of course a high-speed wifi connection.
