Ramparts, bastions, towers…, witnesses to a medieval past, and part of UNESCO’s World Heritage. Then, tower blocks soaring to the sky. Sharp contrasts revealing the city’s heritage, culture and stories, a patina of time adorning well-preserved gems such as the Grand-Duke’s Palace, his official residence, a 16th-C. masterpiece in Renaissance style, enthroned in the Old Town’s cobbled streets.
Just opposite, the NMHA (National Museum of History and Art) hosts a large collection of artefacts, a real kaleidoscope of eras. Fans of international contemporary art head for The Contemporary Art Museum of Luxembourg (Mudam), while the annual Luxembourg City Film Festival draws movie-fans and professionals from around the world. Another remarkable institution is the Philharmonie Luxembourg and its incredible musical events.
In another vein, the Cloche d’Or neighbourhood to the south has been expanding for a decade: apartments, offices, shops, and now the new Gasperich Park. A haven of biodiversity, almost 41 acres, with a vast pond, large playground and multi-sport pitches. Modern, dynamic, this part of town continues to flourish: a great setting for living, working and relaxing.
